The Barber Institute of Fine Arts has been described as ‘one of the finest small galleries in Europe’. Opened in 1939 by Queen Mary this outstanding collection of paintings and sculptures is housed in a Grade ll listed building bequeathed to the University by Lady Barber in memory of her husband. The architecture of the galleries is outstanding and the paintings to be enjoyed in the Institute include masterpieces by Rubens, Van Dyck, Poussin, Gainsborough, Turner, Monet, Degas, Renoir and Van Gogh. |
