Following the ‘liquids’ theme of some of these news pages, the newsletter from Chester Community History and Heritage describes 18th century Northgate Street, Chester, as ‘awash with public inns and hotels’, and quotes Thomas Hughes saying ‘taverns in this locality are as plentiful as blackberries’. The Golden Falcon was for many years considered to be the principal inn of Chester; George Frederick Handel stayed there in 1741.
